Shopping in Japan is an experience in itself—from high-end department stores to quirky 100-yen shops, and the ever-convenient konbini (convenience stores). These phrases will help you shop with confidence and maybe even score some tax-free deals.

Basic Shopping Phrases(基本の買い物フレーズ)

Essential phrases every shopper needs:

Sizes and Fitting(サイズと試着)

Japanese sizes can be different from Western sizes. Here's how to ask:

Japanese clothing sizes tend to run smaller than Western sizes. When in doubt, try one size up.

Many small shops in Japan are still cash-only. Always carry some yen with you.

Tax-Free Shopping(免税)

Tourists can get tax-free shopping on purchases over a certain amount:
